After School Opportunities in May
Amazingly, I have some time that has been freed up in May, and I would like to try a couple of things as possibilities for next year. After learning about Maker Spaces at the NCCE Conference in March, I would like to try my own version. I will have two dates in May after school that students can sign up for individually for making whatever the student desires that is possible with the materials in the elementary engineering lab. There will also be two days with learning to program as the focus. All four days are only for 3rd - 5th grade students at this time. May 21st and May 29th from 3:50 - 4:50 will be programming days. May 22nd and May 28th will be Maker Space days. You may only sign up through the links below. If for some reason you are unable to attend, you will be able to cancel online as well.

May 29 Registration: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/galileo-programming-tickets-11270782213
In addition, I am working on putting together a Career Expo on May 22, 7:00 - 8:00 pm for students in 5th -8th grade. Students have expressed interest in a variety of careers ranging from theater to brain surgery. There have also been requests for a variety of engineering careers. I am looking for community members that would be interested in sharing aspects of their career and the path they took in high school and college to be successful. Students will be able to choose which sessions they would like to attend. They will attend a total of four different sessions during the hour. If you or someone you know would be interested in presenting four separate 12 minute sessions during the hour time frame, please contact me.

Robotics Demonstration
A big thank you goes out to the Boise Police Department and Detective Dustin for taking time out of his busy schedule to demonstrate the bomb squad robot for the students. It was amazing to see that large of a robot and still be able to identify similarities to the LEGO Mindstorms robots we use in class.

Micron funded the purchase of two Family Engineering kits. We put those kits to use engineering and building launchers, towers, and creating an assembly line. Thanks to all who attended. I enjoyed the night as much as you did.
